First of the most commonly reconstructed helmet with mustached mask was found in the village of Lipovets, on the river Bug in today's Ukraine. 
In 1891, an expedition led by the founder of the Artillery Museum, General Brandenburg, found a helmet with a magnificent mask in a mound near the village of Lipovets. A little later (in 1897) the same expedition was lucky to find a second such helmet - near the village of Kovali. These were not the first finds of masks - back in 1887, peasants excavating a mound near the village of Rotmistrovka found a round mask with remnants of a hinge and gilding, and in 1889 fragments of a mask were found in the ruins of Chersonesos, but the finds from Kovalei and Lipovets were not unique. only because of the thoroughness of the artistic execution of the masks, but also because the masks were found together with the helmets to which they were once attached, as well as with other things and weapons that make it possible to quite confidently date the burials, and therefore the masks themselves. Apparently, the peak of the spread of such visors falls at the end of the 12th - the first half of the 13th century - it is this period that can be dated to a number of Black and Polovtsian military burials, where helmets with masks were located (Kovali and Lipovets), although over the past hundred years several options dating - from the 10th to the end of the 14th century, i.e. with a spread of more than four centuries.
